Battles After Cold Harbor |
In the lower part of this map you can see
where the battles took place after Cold Harbor. Look for New Market Heights,
and Ft Harrison (Chaffin's Farm). A very interesting maneuver was planned by General Robert E.Lee after the Confederate victory at Cold Harbor. Lee received intelligence that many fewer troops were protecting Washington D. C. He sent General Early from Cold Harbor on a very circuitous path (red line with white dots in it) to try to capture the Union capital. The 112th Reg 2nd PA HA stopped Early's advance at Ft. Stevens. General Sheridan's calvary chased Early's troops west (red line with yellow squares in it) to a point near Cedar Creek, VA. |
